The Ontario Literacy Coalition (rebranded to Essential Skills Ontario) saw a gap in the history books. There were none written about literacy. They asked the question, “Who would know literacy’s history?” The answer was the heroes and heroines in the literacy field. The solution was to write down their stories.
I had the extraordinary privilege to story-board, edit, and produce Beyond the Book: Learning from Our History, a historical account of the literacy movement in Canada. The stories in this book were collected from literacy professionals across Ontario, Canada, and internationally.
